PRESS RELEASE: Dinosaurs roar into life at Skånes Djurpark

Höör, 16 June 2022

From today, visitors to Skånes Djurpark can travel 70 million years back in time to mingle with moving, roaring dinosaurs. The SEK 14 million new attraction called Dinosaurier is the creation of the world famous, late theme park designer Eric Daman, and his wife and children were present at today’s launch.

The Dinosaurier attraction is situated in a newly developed part of the park in southern Sweden. As visitors walk through the Time Gate, they enter a 3,000 square meter forest area with an adventure trail where full scale dinosaurs live. Along this trail, guests discover the giant Triceratops, the swift Velociraptors and the dinosaur once native to Scania, the Psittacosaurus. The roar from high above the treetops comes from the Brachiosaurus which impresses with its 27 meters from tail to nose.

The SEK 14 million investment coincides with the 70th anniversary celebrations of Skånes Djurpark which opens to the public on 20 June.

- We are creating new experiences and with this major investment we further our commitment to Skånes Djurpark’s future. Our goal is always to work toward our vision of becoming Sweden’s best family destination, says Håkon Lund, owner of the Lund Group.

Eric Daman is the award-winning designer behind Dinosaurier. His design approach incorporates the existing natural environment, blending the attraction with the surrounding forest to dial up the sense of adventure. Dinosaurier is the legendary designer’s very last creation before recently passing away due to cancer.

In Skånes Djurpark, the focus is largely on learning about animals and nature, which is why there are even more “Adventurers” working in the park this summer. The 15 members added to the park’s staff this year will greet guests and share their knowledge of how the park’s new prehistoric creatures live, eat and sleep. You may feed the terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex, but he is a bit picky. Maybe he’ll reject the carrot and the lettuce, while the meat will be hungrily devoured by the hungry carnivore. Those brave enough to try will see.

- We have reconstructed what the dinosaurs looked like, and their greatness can be experienced in person. Dinosaurs are cool, and it’s even more amazing that there is evidence of them having lived in Scania. We already have our Auroches in the park, animals recreated from times passed. Now, we are going 70 million years back in time to learn more about the animals who roamed the Earth then, says Anna Blinkowski, Head Zoologist at Skånes Djurpark.

A new overnight experience, Dino Camp, is also introduced and is an extension of the successful concept of guests staying overnight among the animals of Skånes Djurpark. The park now has a capacity of 150 overnight guests, and a total of 200 employees throughout the season.

Skånes Djurpark is no longer home to just Nordic animals; in 2016 a 20 000 square meter Shaun the Sheep-land emerged and became the home of Shaun the Sheep and his flock. During the last few years, Skånes Djurpark has won seven international awards for its innovative work at the ”Brass Ring Awards”-gala hosted by the industry organization IAAPA.

Skånes Djurpark is run by the Norwegian family business Lund Gruppen Holding AB, which since its start in 1895 is owned and operated by the Lund-family. The group is one of Scandinavia’s largest actors in the tourism industry and besides Skånes Djurpark also owns and operates the Norwegian theme park Kongeparken, Lunds Tivoli and Lund Gruppen Arrangemang, which arranges some of the largest festivals and local celebrations in Norway. Each year, the group creates unforgettable experiences for more than 3 million people. www.lund-gruppen.no
